It’s called “Scrobbling”. What is it? Simple: It’s a way to keep a log of the music you listen to and love, and publish that log on a web site. Currently, by far the most popular web site to send your scrobbles to is Last.fm. When your music library gets listed on Last.fm, you help your favorite bands (especially the lesser-known ones, like us) gain traction in the music world. It’s also a cool way to discover other music you would like, because when Last.fm knows some of your music collection, it can point you in the direction of other great bands in line with your tastes.
If any of this is interesting to you, try it out for a while by downloading a Last.fm-compatible music player or a plugin for your already-favorite player. Go here or here for some more details.
Happy listening,
